Other

This section will have miscellaneous things that didn't fit anywhere else.

This is a picture that our friend took of the river where Kat had her accident. Vanita, the girl who Kat mentored this summer, wrote a poem during the summer that was errily prophetic called the "River Of Rebirth":

River Of Rebirth
By Vanita Borwanker (11 years old - Summer 2006)

A Peaceful river
Surrounded by trees and endless green for miles around
As the sun sets
Colourful rays shoot with no intended direction from the sun.
Purple, Blue, Pink, Gray
There's no doubt
All the colours are there
They swirl around the setting sun
As if giving it a hearty farewell
Shafts of remaining sunlight leak their light on the peaceful river
As the shafts hit the surface of the water with great force,
Ripples spread
As the Night approaches and the Moon shows herself to the world The sky darkens
The moon becomes hazy
And it looks as though ice forms over the edges
Creeping over the moon
Descending upon us
Shafts of moonlight hit the surface of the still body of water
Instead of hard motions,
The moonlight caresses the river
Sends moonbeams down the river
Starting the flow of the river once more––
Silver, glowing water spreads through the lands
Bringing moonlight to the darkest of places
As the moon caresses the night winds
The softly rushing river flows through many countless regions
A light breeze blows through the town once again

Did you know?

  • Over 400 people attended Kat's Memorial Service!
  • The song "Uncovered Heart," according to Kat's father Kenny, emotionally mirrors Kat's life!

The sanskrit verse that we chanted 21 times on October 14, 2006 for Kat, a tradition for thousands of years in India:

TRYAMBAKAM YAJAAMAHE
SUGANDHIM PUSHTI VARDHANAM
URVAARU-KAMIVA BAN-DHANAAN
MRITYOR MUKSHIYA MAA-MRITAAT

Translation:

We worship the Lord Shiva who sees all things, who is fragrant and who nourishes all beings; may he reveal our immortal state and lift our spirits, may we rest safely in his hands.

Douglas Broyles, October 5, 1982:
(After Baba's mahasamadhi, from Siddha Path magazine. Much of it is how I feel about Katheryn)

Have you gone?
They tell me you’ve breathed your last
But the treetops are moving
And someone is stirring them

Before today I knew you by other names,
But now, because these eyes shall not
See your face again, I know you are
My best friend

Of course, we knew each other before
I met you

But
Though love has always been,
The discovery that we were friends took years

I remember walking behind you
The air you had just occupied
was charmed
The space was an enchanted trail
The very molecules danced for joy

Watching your face
Was like painting a seascape
It never stopped changing
I’d look away for seconds
and you were someone new
Often mirroring our thoughts
which you knew before
they were formed
You had more expressions
Than the sky has stars

Ancient of Days
With a baby’s enthusiasm
Swift and bold
as a lion
Void of fear
Everyone’s well-wisher

You said your saturation
in the divine
Was the birthright
of us all
The freed set others free
You reminded us that
discipleship is but a means
And must pass in time
For the Self to stand in its glory

And so farewell, my friend
A form stirs not
You jest
And I am not taken in
You’re everywhere
Unbegun
And
Without end

Death is less certain
Than my knowledge
That when my time comes
I will hear you say
my name once more
And your hand
Will lead me
Home

Consider this story from the life of the twentieth century Indian saint Sai Baba of Shirdi who was famous for performing dramatic miracles. One day a young couple came to him with their young child who was hovering at the threshold of death. they pleaded with Sai baba to perform a miracle and heal their child. he refused. they begged more but he still refused. Eventually they left, weeping, bereft of any hope for the child's recovery.
After they had gone, one of Sai Baba's disciples said, "I don't understand. I've seen you heal people who seemed much less worthy. If their karma is not good enough to allow you to heal their child, perhaps my karma is such that you could do it for my sake."
Sai Baba looked at his disciple for a long time. Finally he said, "Yes, I could. But before I do I want you to consider what you're asking for. This child has a destiny, and that is to be born and live a very short life. this short life is this child's gift to these parents. Of course, they will grieve intensely for awhile, but after that they will know the meaning of living from their hearts. So, this is to be this child's gift to the parents. This is the purpose of such a short life. also, you should know, this child's soul has another body already waiting for it. Now, if you would like to change all this...fine!"
The disciple considered for a brief moment and replied, "Let God's will be done!"
